Meet Our Director
Mohamed Mahmoud, PT, DPT, DAC
Bio
Before making up his mind on a profession, Mohamed Mahmoud shadowed several healthcare clinicians in various fields, including dentists, surgeons, physicians, physician’s assistants, nurses, and chiropractors. But none of these professions captivated him as much as physical therapy did when he first started working as physical therapist aide at Twin Boro’s Parlin location in 2015. He loved seeing patients come in multiple times a week and watching them progress, which was much different than any of the other healthcare professions that he shadowed. The clinicians at Twin Boro Physical Therapy showed Mohamed the value of physical therapy and helped him decide that he wanted to pursue a career in the field.
This career choice led Mohamed to transfer from Middlesex County College to Rutgers University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science: Applied Kinesiology, in 2017. He also attended Rutgers University for physical therapy school and obtained his Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2021. During his schooling, Mohamed continued to work as an aide at our Parlin clinic until 2021, when transferred to our Edison location for his first position as a physical therapist. Mohamed now serves as the Clinical Director of the Edison clinic, and he also practiced at the Westfield location several days per week between late 2021 and 2022.
Mohamed enjoys treating a variety of patients, from pediatrics, to high school and college athletes, all the way up to older adults. He finds that the constant change in patient populations keeps his job interesting and challenging, which ultimately makes it more fun. Overall, Mohamed’s guiding principles are to utilize impairment-based interventions. He believes there are always two types of goals in each episode of care: a patient’s desire to improve functional mobility and experience less pain, and his goals as a therapist, which mirror the patients’ goals, with the addition of educating and preventing re-injury in the future. Mohamed designs personalized treatment programs for each patient with evidence-based interventions that are most likely to lead to improvements, and he regularly utilizes manual therapy and prescribes functional exercises.
Mohamed closely follows Twin Boro’s One2FourTM Care Model with every patient that he cares for. This system helps guide his approach to treatment and ensures that he addresses patients’ needs and concerns by providing an optimal level of care, which ultimately allows each patient to accomplish their goals and improve their quality of life. Whether these needs are to improve functional mobility and continue living independently or for an athlete to boost their performance in a sport, the One2FourTM continuum allows Mohamed to deliver the appropriate level of services needed for each patient to find success with their physical therapy treatment plan. And at every step of their recovery, he educates his patients on how to avoid recurring symptoms and remain pain-free after each treatment session.
Hobbies
In his spare time, Mohamed enjoys reading, watching sports, going to the gym, and spending time with his family.
