Meet Our Director

Samantha Roberts DPT, PT

Bio

Samantha essentially stumbled upon the idea of eventually becoming a physical therapist on her own at an early age, thinking it’d be interesting to use her hands to help people feel better. Her interest in the field was confirmed in high school, when she had to undergo physical therapy for her hand after getting in a car accident. Samantha began her academic career by earning a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from The College of Staten Island in 2008 as a member of the International Sociology Honor Society. She then advanced her education by obtaining a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Touro College and graduating with cum laude honors.

After completing her final clinical rotation at an outpatient facility in Staten Island, Samantha was hired at the clinic as a full-time licensed physical therapist. She joined the Twin Boro team in 2017 as a staff therapist at the Parlin clinic, and then advanced to become Clinic Director of the Holmdel location. Samantha has always had an interest in orthopedic rehabilitation and has completed continuing education courses in several disciplines, including post-operative rehabilitation for joint replacements, rehabilitation techniques for common foot/ankle injuries, evidence-based examination and management of the shoulder, clinical neurodynamics of the lumbar spine and lower extremity, and The Mulligan Concept for Upper and Lower Quadrants.

She treats a variety of patients and conditions, but has a special interest in managing those with frozen shoulder and total knee replacements. She also enjoys the process of treating painful joints that don’t move easily, because patients with these issues are usually able to witness their progress after each treatment. Samantha loves to work with her hands and places a strong focus on manual therapy techniques like myofascial work and joint mobilizations. She finds that the manual component of therapy is often the most important in a patient’s treatment plan, as it will help modulate pain, facilitate the ease of movement, enhance health and wellness, and restore their physical function. She also believes that patient education is key for not only helping them achieve their goals, but also for preventing injury and improving overall health and wellness.

When devising a plan of care, Samantha refers to Twin Boro’s One2FourTM Care Model to determine the “right level of healthcare” for each patient. This unique approach looks at the entire continuum of care for the patient with their particular needs and goals in mind. This ranges from a relatively low level of function a patient might experience after injury or surgery all the way through to the peak performance required to return to their prior or preferred level of function. She believes the model is also a way of helping patients witness their progress, which in turn increases their motivation and overall compliance.
