Meet Our Director
William Smith, PT, DPT

Bio
William Smith played football throughout high school and had his fair share of injuries that required physical therapy, which gave him an insight into the profession and led him to choose it as his future career. He was educated at the Sage Colleges in Albany, NY, where he earned a Bachelor of Applied Sciences in 2015. He then went on to attend Troy University in Troy, NY, where he obtained a Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2018.
William began his career here at Twin Boro Physical Therapy in October 2018. He started off as a staff physical therapist at our Parlin clinic and eventually worked his way up to assistant clinical director of that location, which he maintained for two years. His experience has paved the way for him to become the clinical director of the new Freehold location which opened in June 2023.
In addition to his primary education, William has completed courses with Great Lakes Seminars (“Finding Dysfunction: A Master Clinician’s Approach to Finding the Cause of Patient’s Pain”) and MedBridge (“Rehabilitation of the Shoulder,” for which he earned a certificate). He also holds a Direct Access Certification through Nxt Gen Institute.
William frequently works with orthopedic patients of all ages recovering from joint replacements, soft tissue injuries and repairs, disc derangement and degenerative disc disease, and postural instability-related dysfunctions. He has also treated post-stroke patients and vestibular patients for peripheral canal dysfunctions. William takes a patient-specific approach to treatment in which he identifies and addresses any orthopedic dysfunctions, refers patients to other specialists for any systemic-related dysfunctions, and provides manual care and therapeutic exercises to maximize function. He also educates each of his patients on the importance of adhering to their home-exercise program and how to modify their activities in daily life, both of which help prevent future recurrence of symptoms.
William utilizes the One2Four Model to continually advance each patient’s treatment program, particularly by adjusting the intensity of exercises based on their current functional level and tolerance to activity. He systematically progresses each treatment program as the patient regains their function, with a continued emphasis on achieving all their goals and helping to bring the individual back to their highest functional and recreational level. Along the way, William provides his patients with the tools necessary to sustain their functional abilities and maximize quality of life in the future.
Hobbies
Outside of physical therapy, William enjoys playing recreational basketball and football, watching movies, and spending time with his friends and family, including his lovely wife and daughter.
