MY HOBBIES: Outside the clinic, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife, children, and pets, playing golf, playing music across many genres, and reading Sci-Fi and horror books.
Matt Santoro began his path to becoming a physical therapist in 2005 after a knee injury required him to undergo physical therapy while in high school. He attended Richard Stockton College of New Jersey and graduated in 2013 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology. He then went to Rutgers University where he earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2016. In 2023 Matt became an ABPTS Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy; less than 10% of physical therapists in the United States achieve an ABPTS Board-Certified designation in their career.
As a Board-Certified Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy, Matt excels in treating musculoskeletal conditions from head to toe. He uses the Selective Functional Movement Assessment in combination with his clinical expertise to identify the underlying causes of pain and dysfunction with patients. This allows him to not only resolve pain with patients, but also reduce risk of future pain or injury, improve movement patterns, and maximize quality of life. He believes in a multi-modal approach to treatment including individualized hands-on manual therapy combined with exercise to address mobility restrictions, muscular limitations, and motor programming deficits. This approach has been proven countless times in the best available research to be the most effective way to help patients reach their goals.
In addition to his Board Certification, Matt holds certifications from the Titleist Performance Institute in their Medical, Fitness, Power, and Junior (Youth Golfer) tracks and from Precision Nutrition as a Level 1 provider. Combined with his therapy knowledge, Matt uses the information he learned from those two organizations to maximize on and off field performance for all athletes, particularly rotational athletes participating in golf, baseball, tennis and paddle sports, hockey, and volleyball.
Matt has experience in treating patients across all ages from infants to geriatrics. He is comfortable with pediatric cases and enjoys turning therapy into games for children as a way to address their limitations while having fun. He strives to make therapy a positive experience for all patients, not only the kids, by maintaining an enjoyable environment while staying focused on meeting each patient’s goals.
