Stroke occurs when a blood vessel in the brain is blocked or bursts. Without oxygenated blood researching the brain, the tissue starts to die. The part of the body controlled by the affected area of the brain becomes damaged and stops working properly.
Symptoms
- Sudden numbness, paralysis, or weakness in your face, arm, or leg, especially on only one side of your body
- Problems with walking or balance
- Sudden changes in vision
- Drooling or slurred speech
- Problems speaking or understanding simple statements
- A sudden, severe headache
