Certified Hand Therapy: Expert Treatment for Hand and Wrist Injuries

Twin Boro Physical Therapy has been serving the New Jersey community for over 40 years. Since 1980, our team has worked tirelessly to help our patients overcome obstacles, rehabilitate from injuries and illness, and significantly improve their quality of life. In order to better treat our patients with hand and wrist injuries, many of our 51 locations specialize in hand and wrist therapy. The hands and wrists have some of the most intricate structures in the body, and working with a specialist who has spent years training how to treat these areas of the body can reduce complications and promote faster recovery times.

Outside of certified hand therapy, our clinics offer diverse types of physical therapy to best help our patients achieve their goals. Many patients receive several types of physical therapy in tandem to improve symptoms associated with complex conditions. At Twin Boro Physical Therapy, you can expect treatment options in areas such as:

When you come in for your first appointment, our team will work with you to understand your concern and connect you with an expert therapist who specializes in the treatment time you seek. We pair each patient with a therapist individually to maximize outcomes and create a space for open communication and feedback.

What is hand therapy?

The focus of certified hand therapy treatment will vary depending on your rehabilitation needs. For example, hand therapy for arthritis will have a much different focus than hand therapy after a burn wound.  After your certified hand therapist has evaluated your condition and consulted with other needed medical professionals, they will develop a targeted plan that includes a mix of treatment types.

While different for everyone, some common components included in certified hand therapy are:

  • Therapeutic exercises to increase range of motion
  • Strengthening exercises
  • Joint manipulation movements
  • Whirlpools
  • Occupational conditioning
  • Treatments to reduce scar tissue
  • Dexterity exercises
  • Pain management
  • Injury avoidance techniques
  • Electrical stimulation
  • Nerve desensitization
  • Splinting or taping
  • Hot and cold therapy
  • Custom orthotics

While certified hand therapy may suggest by the name that it is only used to treat conditions of the hand, it actually extends to many more conditions. For example, commonly seen injuries, illnesses, and ailments seen by our certified hand therapists include:

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Ganglion cysts
  • Tennis elbow
  • Gold elbow
  • Repetitive movement disorder
  • De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis
  • Dupuytren’s contracture
  • Hand pain
  • Trigger finger
  • Hand, wrist, and elbow sprains or strains
  • Hand, wrist, and elbow dislocations
  • Hand, wrist, and elbow fractures
  • Amputations
  • Fine motor skill deficiencies
  • Arthritis
  • Burn wounds

While this includes many of our patients, it is not a comprehensive list. If you believe your symptoms might benefit from certified hand therapy, schedule a consultation at one of our locations to meet with an expert professional.
