In addition to this, one-on-one pairings allow for a deeper relationship to form between the therapist and patients to encourage patients to feel comfortable giving feedback sharing concerns and asking questions.

Exercises to Prevent Knee Pain

While physical therapy is the most effective path to truly targeting the root of the injury and alleviating symptoms, simple strengthening exercises can be performed at home to alleviate or cure knee pain.

For each exercise, we recommend 3-4 sets with 5-10 repetitions each.

Squats

Perhaps one of the most standard exercises, squats are a great way to strengthen your quadriceps, glutes, and hamstrings. If you experience instability while performing this exercise, you can sit in a chair or hold onto a wall while performing this exercise.

Form wise, try not to let your knees extend over your toes, keep your back straight, and keep your feet shoulder-width apart. To begin, you can start with small squats and gradually bend the knees further until you are reaching a 90-degree angle between your lower and upper legs.

Lunges

Another great standard exercise, lunges help to strengthen the thighs, hips, and improve balance. To perform this exercise, start with the feet hip-width apart and take a large step forward. Slowly lower the hips and bend both knees, keeping the front knee from going over the toe. Lower the back knee towards the floor as much as you are comfortable and then straighten the legs once more, pushing the front foot to return to meet the back foot.

Sit to Stand

This is a great way to build a functional movement. Stand in front of a chair and slowly band the knees to lower down. If needed, you can hold onto a banister or wall to increase stability. Once you are seated, root through the feet to return to standing. To make the exercise more difficult, lower the seat. To make it easier, use a higher seat.
