What is Virtual Physical Therapy?

“Virtual” physical therapy, also called “telehealth” or “telemedicine” physical therapy, is the use of electronic communication to provide services remotely over a technology platform like a smartphone, tablet or computer that is equipped with a camera and microphone. We use a secure and confidential (HIPAA compliant) telehealth platform that is very user-friendly.

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) About Virtual Physical Therapy

Q: Do virtual (telehealth) visits provide the same quality of care as visits to a Twin Boro Physical Therapy clinic?

Yes. Virtual physical therapy gives us the ability to deliver the same high-quality care to patients with an added level of convenience to better suit your needs and abilities. Patients tell us they feel the same authentic, personalized connection through virtual visits as they do in a clinic setting.

Q: What sort of exercises or activities occur during a virtual visit?

During a virtual PT visit, the therapist will watch your movements and activities to determine the treatment you need. This may include taking range-of-motion measurements stretching, flexibility, self-mobilization, strengthening, and more.

Q: What equipment do I need?

Virtual visits are conducted through audio-video chat on an Internet-connected device equipped with a camera and microphone. Patients will need access to a smartphone, tablet, or computer with reliable internet and video capabilities. Download the telehealth app onto your device based on instructions provided by your therapist prior to your first telehealth visit. Our goal is to make the process as easy as possible.

Q: How long are the virtual PT visits?

Every patient’s visit is different because each program is individualized, but most virtual visits last for approximately 30 minutes.

Q: Can I see the same physical therapist every visit?

Due to clinic availability, we cannot ensure you will see your existing physical therapist. However, our physical therapists will collaborate to ensure you are receiving consistent care based on your individualized treatment program.

Q: Are my telehealth sessions secure and confidential?

Yes, all virtual PT sessions with Twin Boro Physical Therapy are confidential and secure.  We use a HIPAA-compliant platform, that does not save, record, or store any of your information or any of the video or audio from your sessions.  For privacy in your home, we recommend finding a quiet space (with a good internet connection) where you can easily communicate with your therapist with minimal disruptions or background noise.
