Meet Our Director

Matthew Lannin, PT, DPT

Bio

Matthew Lannin was drawn to his future career path after undergoing Tommy John surgery for an elbow injury he suffered while pitching at Rutgers University. He underwent physical therapy for several months afterwards to rehabilitate his elbow, and it was during his recovery that he developed a passion for the profession. Matthew received a Bachelor of Science in exercise science and sports studies from Rutgers University in 2003 and a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 2006. While at UMDNJ, he earned an Excellence in Academics Award and Excellence in Research Award.

Matthew began his career as a staff physical therapist at Twin Boro Physical Therapy’s Westwood location in 2006, then became the clinic director of the Piscataway location one year later and remained at that position until 2013. He subsequently spent 8.5 years as a clinical director for US Physical Therapy (USPH) at their Hackettstown clinic before returning to Twin Boro to serve as the clinic director at our Bridgewater practice.

Throughout his career, Matthew has taken multiple courses through Great Lakes Seminars, including courses on the manual therapy approach to evaluating the shoulder complex and the foot and ankle complex, as well as finding dysfunction in the upper extremity. He has also taken courses on strengthening core stability and manual therapy from Summit Medical Education, the Mulligan Concept from Northeast Seminars, and kinesiotaping (KT1-2 and KT3) from Rehab Education.

Matthew regularly treats a variety of orthopedic injuries, but especially enjoys treating patients of all ages who are recovering from surgery and helping them regain their post-surgical abilities. He typically utilizes a combination of manual techniques, including joint mobilizations and soft tissue mobilization, and advanced therapeutic exercises. He uses the McKenzie Method and kinesiotaping whenever appropriate, and always prioritizes the education of each patient to ensure they understand their condition and management plan. Matthew’s treatments are always individualized to the patient’s current functional ability and the specific goals they would like to achieve.

Matthew utilizes the One2FourTM Care Model to continually advance each patient’s treatment program, particularly by adjusting the intensity of exercises based on their current functional level and tolerance to activity. He continually advances each program as the patient reaches the next step with a continued emphasis on achieving all the patient’s goals and helping to bring the individual back to their highest functional and recreational level.

Hobbies

When not treating patients, Matthew enjoys spending time outside, including running, biking, skiing, and golfing, and loves going to the beach with his wife, two daughters, and dog whenever possible.
