Dean Thompson, PT, DPT, DAC

MY HOBBIES: Outside of work, Dean loves spending time with my wife, son, and their dog. He stays active by surfing, skiing, playing paddle tennis, and working out.

Dean Thompson has been very active and involved in sports for as long as he can remember. During his college years, he began to learn more about fitness, wellness, and the field of physical therapy. As he learned more, Dean became serious about pursuing physical therapy as a profession because he aligned with its sustainable approach to healthcare and using movement as a tool to improve people’s quality of life. He was educated at The College of New Jersey, where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biopsychology in 2013, and then went on to Rutgers University, where he earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2018.

Dean started working for Twin Boro Physical Therapy in March 2019 as a staff physical therapist at the Parlin location. He then became the assistant director at the Red Bank office in August 2021 and the clinical director of the Holmdel clinic in April 2023. Prior to joining Twin Boro, Dean worked at a chiropractic and physical therapy outpatient clinic.

Dean has taken several orthopedic-based continuing education courses throughout his career. Most notably, he completed a Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) Level 1 certification, a Direct Access Certification (DAC), and a Nxt Gen Institute orthopedic residency. Dean specializes in outpatient orthopedics and believes that great treatment starts with a thorough examination and evaluation. He then uses the information gathered to determine a patient-specific treatment plan that respects the patient’s current level of irritability and functioning while also representing their personal goals.

With each patient under his care, Dean utilizes Twin Boro’s One2Four^TM Care Model. This unique approach looks at the entire continuum of care for the patient or athlete and helps them progress from a relatively low level of function after injury or surgery all the way through to peak performance after completing treatment. According to Dean, this model allows him and the patient to share a visual representation of where the patient currently stands on this scale and the steps needed to help them ultimately reach their goals.

I had a great experience with Jake, my PT after suffering a dislocated jaw. Jake has a wonderful personality and great bed side manner. Before a session started, Jake would explain (and make sure I understood) every exercise and treatment I'd be receiving that day. Even when some of the treatments wouldn't be comfortable for me, he explained why and how the specific treatment would benefit my recovery. Incredible experience with Twin Boro PT in Holmdel!I've been running for over 10 years, but I began developing chronic calf pain that lasted for a few months.Jake & Anthony quickly assessed the injury and developed a reasonable and reliable game plan to address the issue that was implemented on Day 1. Within a relatively short span of time I was back to running 10k with no problem.Everyone from the front desk to aids to the therapists themselves are all top notch. Great interpersonal skills and receptive to questions and flexible with ever changing schedules.If/when any injury arises that extends beyond personal maintenance, they'll be my first call. Definitely recommend.

Jake at Twin Boroughs has been amazing! I had broken my ankle and while he was taking care of me had noticed something not right with my healing, the dr brushed his concerns off. But Jake never gave up and I saw a different dr. They had to rebreak it. If it hadn’t been for Jake and his professionalism and his caring nature it could have been worse. He also took such good care of me which I greatly appreciate. I wish there were more people like him. His care for people is rare, and it showed through how all his patients loved him. Place is the best. Joe and Dean are top notch therapists. Fixed the issues I needed in 6 weeks time. Great atmosphere, and everyone who works there are great people. Everyone, from the therapists to assistants who help to the desk clerks who can change my appointments with no issues if need be. I may be healed and feeling better, but my healing has stopped me from going to Twin Boro and seeing the great people I met along the way, including other patients who were so nice. I’ve been coming to this physical therapy facility for three months now, following a work related injury, which required surgery. My hand to God, the friendliest, most knowledgeable and accommodating staff one could imagine. All the way from the physical therapists to the assistants and the administrative experts. First i have to say if I could give them more than 5 stars I would. Working with this team of physical therapists was wonderful. I worked with Dean, Joe, Jill and Meghan. But also had a couple of appointments when I met other staff members (sorry I forgot names). All of them were helpful in working with me to recover. They take their time with you to make sure to design a routine that is tailored to your needs. My Physical therapist was Dean and his knowledge on the issue I was having was amazing. He always was concerned on how I felt doing the exercises and how I was progressing. If something wasn't working he was willing to find a replacement therapy/exercise to accomodate. The atomosphere was always relaxed and very pleaseant. You never felt that you were being rushed out the door for the next person coming in for thier appointment. If you can only be there for a certain amount of time they worked with that. I really appreciated how Dean explained the exercise, what it would target and the expected result for doing the exercise. Loved they had early hours. If Physical Therapy is needed I highly recommend Twin Boro in Holmdel.

Everyone is so friendly, starting at the front desk, Jill and Maria, the assisting staff, Katie and Olivia (I’m sure there are more) and the physical therapists, Joe, Dean and Alison. I had the pleasure of having Joe as my PT guy and he treats you like a friend not a client. I only had Alison and Dean a few times and they were also just like talking to a friend. Recently I experienced severe lower back pain and again turned to Twinboro in Holmdel for help. While I was not very hopeful given the intensity of my pain but I decided to try Physical Therapy (PT) again.When I started, my only expectation was that the therapy would help me manage my pain better; however, to my very pleasant surprise, after only a few sessions of therapy, my back never felt better. On most days now, I feel like my back is almost normal. I give the credit to my Physical Therapist Allison Sarnoski of Twinboro. She provided me with effective and consistent therapy during every session. She reinforced those sessions with a very effective set of exercises that she slowly expanded to strengthen my back. You may be fooled by her low-key demeanor but the results of her therapy are anything but! She is an exceptional therapist.The well-trained therapist assistants at Twinboro Holmdel are friendly and provide all assistance you need. I want to especially thank Katie Downey for her great support.Twinboro Holmdel is managed very effectively. Their friendly office staff, Jill Mitchell and Maria Barbara, patiently helped me with schedule changes many, many times. They are excellent!
