Hand Therapy in Newark, NJAt Twin Boro Physical Therapy, we have been treating patients with respect, diligence, and compassion since 1980. It is because of this commitment to our patients that we have been voted the best physical therapy practice in the state of New Jersey. We are dedicated to continually reviewing and implementing the latest science so that our patients can be confident they are receiving the best care and utilizing state-of-the-art resources for the best possible outcomes.

Our Approach

We employ an outcome-driven, patient-focused approach to ensure every patient is receiving individualized care suited exactly to their needs. We take pride in our one-on-one therapy sessions which allow our patients to ask questions, closely monitor progress and goals, and deeply understand their diagnosis and care plan.

We also employ our trademarked One2FourTM approach, which categorizes patients in groups 1, 2, 3, or 4. This is dependent on their need for help inside and outside of the home, in addition to more advanced or ultra-athletic goals. This helps our patients understand their starting point and each step towards their desired outcome, as well as helping our therapists connect them to the right outside resources and medical professionals.

Common Hand Therapy Techniques

To ensure the best outcomes, we use a combination of different hand therapy techniques based on skilled assessments from our qualified hand therapists.

Manual Therapy Technique (MTT)

Because of our one-on-one sessions with clients, our therapists can use a hands-on approach to help manually stretch muscles, reduce swelling through soft tissue massages, and perform manual exercises to increase range of motion and improve mobility.

Neuromuscular Reeducation (NMR)

This is a technique used to help reconnect nerve signals and muscle movements within the body to help normalize body movements. This type of therapy helps reeducate nerves within the body to send appropriate signals to the muscles and improves dexterity in daily tasks.

Splinting

By limiting the motion of certain joints within the upper extremities, we are able to reduce swelling and alleviate pain and inflammation. Our experienced professionals will design a custom-made splint that is fitted specifically to your body and need. This helps to reduce inflammation within the body and speed healing.

Ultrasound

Our hand therapists are trained to use mechanical ultrasound therapy in order to decrease pain and inflammation. This technology works by pulsing sound waves through the soft tissues within the hand. This leads to contraction and expansion of small gas bubbles within the tissue, reducing swelling and consequentially increasing comfort.

Cold Laser

This is a cutting-edge approach that utilizes infrared light to reduce swelling, improve circulation, and decrease pain by affecting the body on a cellular level.
